An autopsy has failed to determine the cause of death of a Canadian backpacker found dead on K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) off the southern Queensland coast. Authorities have confirmed that further testing is required to establish what led to the tourist's death.
The body of the backpacker was discovered on a beach on the island, which is a popular destination for domestic and international visitors. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service officials are assisting with the investigation.
Police have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death at this stage. The results of additional forensic tests are expected in the coming weeks.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for safety awareness among tourists visiting remote areas of the island, which is known for its wild dingo population and rugged terrain.
