A five-year-old girl has died after being hit by a ute while riding a scooter outside a school in Sydney's north-west. Emergency services were called to Rouse Hill Public School on Clower Avenue about 3:45pm on Thursday.
Police were told the kindergartener was riding a scooter on the footpath when she was fatally struck by the vehicle. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
The driver, a 43-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. A crime scene was established and investigation is under way.
One mother, who lives nearby, said she was at the school when the incident happened. 'The government has to step in and do something about this area, it's too congested. Everybody rushing, it's got to stop. Something has to be done on this street and the ability to get into this community centre.'
NSW Department of Education secretary Murat Dizdar said, 'I, along with the rest of our school community, was devastated to learn of the death of a young student from Rouse Hill Public School yesterday.' He offered condolences to the student's family and praised school staff for their quick response.
