Joshua De Vaney, a Perth man, has amassed a collection of Michael Jordan toys worth over $200,000, drawing attention from A-list celebrities. De Vaney, who calls himself the “Michael Jordan Toy Historian,” showed off his collection on PerthNow’s collectors series.
De Vaney’s collection includes toys, shoes, games, and life-sized figurines. He wears gloves when handling them, saying, “I treat these products as artifacts.” He estimates he has spent over $75,000 on toys and $25,000 on shipping.
His collection has caught the eye of celebrities like Akon, Ludacris, and Fat Joe, who introduced him as “the Michael Jordan toy guy.” De Vaney has also gifted rare items to Michael Jordan’s son, Marcus, suggesting his name might be known in the Jordan household.
Despite his focus on Michael Jordan, De Vaney’s favorite player is Magic Johnson, noting, “Had Magic Johnson had more toys, we might not be sitting here today.” He believes his work preserves Michael Jordan’s legacy and the art of play.
