The partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Vahid Reza Adib, had his rape charges mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court today. The 65-year-old surgeon did not appear in person.
Adib was charged on May 1 with three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty, and one count of sexual assault. He voluntarily attended a Gold Coast police station to face the charges.
Police allege the offences occurred at Adib's Burleigh Heads apartment on March 30, involving a woman in her 30s. The case was adjourned to July 7.
Adib was granted police bail under Queensland's Bail Act, with conditions including surrendering his passport. His registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency remains active with no conditions.
Magistrate Jane Bentley ordered the defence be provided a brief of evidence by June 23. Defence lawyer Dan Rogers stated Adib intends to vigorously defend the charges.
Adib has been in a relationship with Palaszczuk since 2021. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the former premier.
