Carlton Doctor Takes Personal Leave Amid Elijah Hollands Controversy

Carlton Football Club doctor Matt Chamberlain has taken personal leave following the controversy surrounding the handling of player Elijah Hollands' medical episode during a recent match. The development was reported by Channel 7's Tom Morris on The Agenda Setters, who noted that Chamberlain is also considering legal options depending on the outcome of the AFL's investigation.

Hollands had a concerning performance with only one ineffective disposal, sparking widespread commentary about why he was allowed to remain on the field. The AFL received Carlton's report into the incident two weeks ago and stated on Monday that they will take their time with the 'delicate' situation.

Morris reported that Chamberlain took leave over the weekend and may not return for this week's game. 'I can reveal tonight that their club doctor, a very respected medical professional, Dr Matt Chamberlain, took leave on the weekend, personal leave, as a result of this saga,' Morris said. He added that Chamberlain is considering legal action if the AFL investigation paints him in an unfair light.

Caroline Wilson commented that the doctors feel targeted by the investigation, which is being led by AFL football operations boss Laura Kane. 'I think that the doctors feel they've been targeted,' Wilson said. Coach Michael Voss had previously defended his staff, saying the club had been 'bullied' by the media.

AFL general manager of football performance Greg Swann offered best wishes to Hollands after a 'harrowing week for him and his family'. He confirmed that Kane and her team are reviewing the Carlton report, adding, 'There's no rush on this. This is a really delicate matter.'
