Melissa George Secretly Welcomes Fourth Child in France

Perth-born actress Melissa George has secretly welcomed her fourth child, a son, as she enjoys life away from the spotlight in France. The 49-year-old Home and Away alum shared the surprise news in a joint Instagram post with former Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Kirstie Clements.

Details of the Birth and Travels

Clements posted a series of images on Sunday, capturing George breastfeeding her newborn from an outdoor cafe in Provence, along with glimpses of their luxurious road trip through the French Riviera. The baby's name and the identity of the father have not been revealed. An Instagram hashtag confirmed that George is now raising four sons.

“From the maternity ward, straight into a Parisian heatwave (with a toddler…challenging) and now to an epic road trip through Provence and the Cote de’Azur, first stop Hotel Crillon le Brave,” Clements captioned the post.

George's Family and Previous Relationships

George’s two-year-old son Lyor Gatsby Gene was seen playing with toys and exploring the town on foot, with his face hidden from the camera. Becoming a mother at 47 and then again at 49, the Mosquito Coast star had earlier given birth to Raphael in 2014 and Solal in 2015, whom she shares with French entrepreneur and film producer Jean-David Blanc. The pair dated from 2012 to 2016, but George has since remained in France due to the nation’s strict custody laws. Prior to raising a family, the Aussie married Chilean film director Claudio Dabed in 2000 before announcing their separation in 2011.

Continued Acting Career

Expanding her young family has not quelled the veteran’s interest in maintaining an active presence on screen. She enjoyed a starring role in the newly released TV series Ms. X, shot in New Zealand. In a recent interview with Stellar’s podcast Something To Talk About, the three-time Logie winner admitted she continues to watch Home and Away decades after her debut in the early 90s aged 16.

Reflections on Past Co-Star

George lamented the loss of co-star and TV husband Dieter Brummer in 2021 to suicide, describing his death as “devastation beyond comprehension”. “That’s just too many years of him suffering that was overlooked. It really breaks my heart because he was a beautiful man. It’s very sad,” she said. “I’m not one to step out or make comments that people are gonna use for years to come. I’ve already done that and suffered the consequences. But I sort of kept silent. Shane and Angel was everything. I did re-watch the scene when he passed away on the rock on the beach — the final scene of Shane — and it was absolutely heartbreaking.”
