Meghan Markle could soon have a new stepmother who is just two years her senior. An insider has revealed that Meghan's father, Thomas, has fallen in love and could be plotting to walk down the aisle in the near future. Thomas met Filipino nurse Rio Canedo, 46, when he was being treated in hospital, and the pair quickly fell in love.
Thomas Markle's New Relationship
Sources close to the Markle family have revealed that Meghan's estranged father is 'happier than he could ever have imagined'. If the pair tie the knot, it would be his third marriage, after his 1964 marriage to Roslyn Loveless and his 1987 marriage to Doria Ragland, the Duchess of Sussex's mother.
A source told the Daily Express that Meghan's father is planning on spending the rest of his life with the nurse. 'Thomas told me he'd marry her in a heartbeat and he's telling the rest of the family he's happier than he could ever have imagined at the thought of spending the rest of his life with Rio,' the source said.
'He still has a recovery stretch to navigate with at least a few months in America, where he's been FaceTiming Rio almost every day.'
Thomas Markle's Previous Comments
Markle previously spoke about his much younger girlfriend in a revealing interview earlier this year. 'I know some people will say hurtful things but I don't care,' he told the Daily Mail in March. 'I want to talk about this because I never thought I would ever be happy again. I want people to know you're never too old to find peace and love.'
'There's a lot of negative things going on in the world and if my story can give a little hope to one person then I'm happy … the haters will hate. But, to be honest, I don't give a damn. Life is for living. There's nothing more important in life than love.'
Meghan remains estranged from her father, who has slammed the duchess publicly in numerous outspoken interviews over the years.
