A mother is going viral after sharing her daughter's ungrateful response to receiving a car as a high school graduation present. The woman posted a screenshot of their text exchange on Instagram, showing her daughter's disappointment with the brand new Honda.
Mother's Heartfelt Gift Met with Disdain
The concerned mother wrote, "You didn't seem like you liked the car?" To which her daughter replied, "I don't. I was expecting to get a Mercedes Benz or a BMW." The teen added, "I appreciate you mom but it's just not my style. You drive a G Wagon so me driving a basic Honda is weird."
Understandably livid, the mother responded: "You realise you just graduated high school, right? You have a roof over your head, you don't have to pay bills, college is paid for, you don't have to rush and leave home, your life is set. So to sit up and tell me you don't like a car I paid CASH for is crazy. That's VERY ungrateful. If you appreciated me you would drive the car and not storm off with an attitude and leave! If you're not going to drive the car, I will sell it."
The mother, 45, reminded her daughter that she worked hard for her own G Wagon, while the teen hasn't "worked hard for anything yet." The daughter simply replied, "Just sell it ma. I don't want it."
Internet Reacts with Outrage
Instagram users flooded the comments, mostly outraged by the teen's entitlement. One quipped, "Keep the car. Sell the kid." Another wrote, "I'll be your kid, I can cook." A third shared, "I feel so bad for the mom. Her heart must be so sore." One person recounted, "Man when I was 17 my dad made me get a job save up 2000 and had me pick out a car from impound." Another suggested, "Humble her and put her in a hooptie."
The viral post has sparked debates about gratitude, parenting, and entitlement among teenagers, with many sympathizing with the mother's frustration.
