Actress Jenny Mollen has faced fierce social media backlash after posting what many called 'cringe' photos of herself lying on top of her 12-year-old son in bed, along with a caption she has since deleted.
Controversial Instagram Post
In the recent Instagram post, Mollen is pictured between her eldest son Sid's legs, holding him in her arms with her hands caressing the back of his head. The original caption read: 'Your eldest son will be the most toxic guy you ever date.' This caption was later removed following widespread criticism.
Mollen also shared the same snaps on her Facebook page, featuring audio from Beyoncé and Jay-Z's song '03 Bonnie & Clyde,' according to TMZ. That Facebook post has been entirely deleted.
Social Media Backlash
Despite deleting the caption, the Instagram post drew sharp criticism from users who found the images inappropriate for a mother and her pre-teen son. One user commented: 'Saw the original post with the original caption. Super weird. And I have boys the same age. And yes we hug and cuddle but that caption was creepy AF.'
Another wrote: 'I hug my son. I DON’T LAY groin to groin with him. Weird. Block.' A more sympathetic user noted: 'I think if perhaps people knew your relationship personally they would be like, “Oh that’s just Jenny and her kid!!” But from an outsiders perspective the intimate pose is a bit cringe for an almost teenager.'
Others questioned who took the photos and labelled Mollen 'a CERTAIN type of boy mum.'
Defense from Source
A source close to Mollen told TMZ: 'The picture is nothing more than a mother hugging her 12-year-old son. Any one inferring anything else should be ashamed of themselves.' The insider attributed the controversial caption to Mollen's background as a comedian.
Background on Mollen and Biggs
Mollen shares Sid and her 8-year-old son Lazlo with estranged husband Jason Biggs. Page Six confirmed their split on May 14, with a spokesperson stating the two remain on great terms and are focused on raising their sons.
Biggs, 48, and Mollen, 46, met while working on the Howard Deutch-directed film 'My Best Friend’s Girl' in 2007. They became engaged in January 2008 and eloped that April. Sid was born in 2014, followed by Lazlo in 2017.
A rep for Mollen was not immediately available for comment to Page Six.
