Hannah Waddingham has hinted at on-set tension with her Ted Lasso co-star Jason Sudeikis, describing their dynamic as a "love-hate relationship." In a recent interview with Variety, the 51-year-old actress discussed Sudeikis's habit of rewriting scripts at the last minute, saying she has had to "roll with the punches."
"There's always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene," Waddingham explained. "He hears it in the room, and then we tweak. With that boy, you've got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute."
Despite the challenges, Waddingham insisted the cast remains close, noting that it's "odd" if they don't chat weekly. She specifically mentioned co-star Brett Goldstein as someone she stays in touch with. Sudeikis's representative did not respond to Page Six's request for comment.
Sudeikis's Rewrites Delayed Season Three
Sudeikis is known for his frequent script changes on Ted Lasso, which caused the third season to be delayed for months. However, the fourth season is expected to premiere on time in August. Waddingham also addressed the platonic bond between her character Rebecca Welton and Sudeikis's Ted Lasso, which some fans hope will turn romantic. "They are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things," she said.
New Direction for Season Four
The show's fourth season, renewed by Apple TV in 2025, will see Lasso coaching a women's team for AFC Richmond. Waddingham promised fans a "whole different deal" in February, expressing excitement for the new direction. "I can't wait for everyone to see what they've come up with," she told Deadline. She also stated she would play Welton until she is 80 if allowed, praising Sudeikis and the writers' room as a "finely tuned machine."
