Ann Widdecombe, the former Conservative MP and reality TV star, died 24 hours before her body was found, police have confirmed. The 78-year-old was discovered at her home in Kent on Saturday morning.
Police Confirm Time of Death
Kent Police said that based on initial investigations, Widdecombe died on Friday, a full day before her body was located. Officers were called to the property after concerns were raised by a friend.
"We believe that Ann Widdecombe passed away approximately 24 hours before she was found," a police spokesperson said. "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death."
Tributes Pour In
Widdecombe, who served as an MP from 1987 to 2010 and held roles as Minister of State for Prisons and Shadow Home Secretary, was also known for her appearances on shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson led tributes, calling her "a formidable politician and a unique character who will be greatly missed."
Cause of Death Not Yet Released
The cause of death has not yet been disclosed, and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place in the coming days. The coroner has been informed.
Widdecombe's family has requested privacy at this difficult time.
