Scarborough Hotel Plans to Replace Car Park with Cabana Area

The Scarborough Hotel has submitted revised plans to Wollongong City Council to replace a small car park with a seating and cabana area. The proposed development focuses on an outdoor space immediately south of the hotel, leaving the main northern parking area unchanged.

Owners Epochal Hotels, who acquired the property from Bruce Gordon in April last year, have included landscaping, seating, and a rear fence with a gate for beer garden access in the design. Screening has been added to protect neighbouring residents' privacy without obstructing ocean views.

A document lodged with the application states the redevelopment does not alter the existing hotel building but improves site amenity and ensures visual privacy through vegetation. Acoustic screening and area closures have been implemented on the southern side to address noise concerns, though these measures are not required.

An acoustic study submitted with the application indicates the cabana area will not cause a noticeable increase in noise levels compared to current hotel operations. The development application is on public exhibition until November 20.
