An unknown Lotto player from regional Western Australia is a million dollars richer after a Division One win on Wednesday night. The winning ticket was sold at Northampton Newsagency, a small business in the historic farming town of Northampton, located about 50 kilometers north of Geraldton.
Northampton Newsagency owner Amanda Fraser said locals were “pretty excited” about the win, which provides a welcome distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic. “Farming life hasn’t stopped here so everyone is just going about their days as usual, and being a small town it’s been a nice distraction,” she said.
This is the third major win for the newsagency in recent years. It sold a $50,000 Scratch’n’Win ticket in 2018 and a million-dollar Lotto ticket in 2017. The 2017 winner was a regular customer who came to the store early to share the news. However, the identity of the latest winner remains unknown.
Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman noted that 2020 has been a very good year for regional WA, with this latest win bringing the total number of Division One wins to 31. All profits from Lotterywest tickets currently contribute to a COVID-19 Relief Fund, supporting those impacted by the coronavirus.
