Kmart Launches K Home Store in Box Hill

Kmart has introduced a new store concept in Box Hill, Victoria, called 'K home', dedicated entirely to home and living products. The 3,100 square metre space offers customers a curated selection of items that were previously only available online, with room-set inspirations to help shoppers visualise their purchases.

New Format Trial

The budget retailer launched the trial in response to strong customer demand for its home range. A Kmart spokeswoman said the store builds on 'years of growth in Kmart’s home offer' and will help the company understand what shoppers want from the home and lifestyle category. 'The trial aims to make it easier for customers to access Kmart’s home range while continuing to deliver the quality, style and low prices Australians know and love,' she said.

Customer Reactions

Photos of the new store quickly circulated on social media, sparking excitement and comparisons to Ikea. One user noted the site was a former Decathlon store, making it about half the size of a full-size Kmart. Another commented, 'K home will never match Ikea!' Despite this, many are eager to explore the new format.

Chief Commercial Officer Callum Smith emphasised the immersive nature of the store, designed to help customers furnish their spaces and create comfortable home environments. 'Customers have embraced Kmart’s home range for many years, and we’ve continued to grow our furniture offer as customer demand has grown,' he said. 'At a time when value matters more than ever, this trial is about helping Australian families create a home they love at a price they can afford.'

Store Features

The K home store will feature 'room-set inspiration' displays, offering a clearer presentation of furniture, storage, and home styling. It will also make previously online-only items accessible in-store. The store officially opens to the public on June 18.
