Woodberry Man Charged After Police Chase On Unregistered Bike

A 22-year-old Woodberry man has been charged after allegedly leading police on a pursuit while riding a stolen and unregistered motorbike. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 26, when Strike Force Pumpa police observed an orange KTM Duke 200 motorbike without a number plate traveling on Beresfield Drive just after 8:30am.

Police attempted to stop the motorbike, but the rider allegedly failed to pull over, prompting a pursuit along Anderson Drive in Beresfield. Highway patrol officers said the rider continued in a manner intended to evade police before entering the car park of Newcastle Memorial Park.

The man allegedly abandoned the motorbike and attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested by police. Subsequent checks revealed the motorbike had been unregistered since April 2026 and was reported stolen in September 2025.

The man allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for cannabis and methamphetamine. He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with police pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle, being unlicensed, using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and refusing to give his name and address.

Police said further charges could be laid pending further analysis of the drug samples.
