A Pakistani restaurant in Perth's east has been fined $72,000 for multiple food safety breaches, including failure to prevent pests and improper food storage. The City of Belmont prosecuted PIND Restaurant last month over nine violations of the Food Standards Code and the Food Act.
Inspectors made two visits in November, finding kitchen equipment not maintained to a standard of cleanliness. The Department of Health convicted the restaurant operator, PAK Global Network, on April 10.
A representative for the restaurant said they would appeal the fines but provided no supporting information. PIND Restaurant has a 4.5-star rating on Google from 231 reviews, with customers praising its authentic Pakistani cuisine.
The restaurant describes itself as a go-to place for authentic Halal Desi food. The largest fine for a restaurant food safety breach in the area was $215,000 imposed on Metro Indian Restaurant in 2019.
