A large block of land in Oak Flats that has been vacant for more than 15 years could soon be transformed into 20 new townhouses. The site, located on Government Road next to the Lakeview Hotel, is the subject of a development application lodged with Shellharbour City Council.
The proposal covers the northern half of the block and includes nine townhouses along the northern boundary and another nine along the southern side. Two homes will face Government Road, providing direct access to the road rather than using the internal driveway.
Each townhouse will have a single garage, with an additional 10 uncovered parking spaces for residents and seven visitor spaces. The application documents do not specify the bedroom breakdown of the units.
The statement of environmental effect accompanying the application says the development will provide an alternative housing option and increase the range of housing choice for future residents in the locality. It also claims the project will play a positive economic and social stimulus as infill development within Oak Flats.
The site is approximately 200 metres south of Oak Flats High School and about 550 metres west of Shellharbour TAFE. The Shellharbour City Centre and Shellharbour Square retail complex are located roughly 700 metres to the southwest.
