One Dead, Truck Driver Critical After Wrong-Way Bruce Highway Crash

A 26-year-old man has died after a truck travelling the wrong way on the Bruce Highway collided head-on with his car in Burpengary. The crash occurred just after 10:30pm on Tuesday, with multiple vehicles reportedly spotted driving southbound in the northbound lanes.

Police believe an Isuzu truck was being followed by at least one other vehicle as it travelled south in the northbound lane before crashing into a Honda car. The driver of the car, a 26-year-old Caboolture man, died at the scene. The truck driver was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said the truck appeared to be travelling at excessive speed based on initial dashcam footage. He urged anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward, noting that the vehicle following the truck continued southbound after the crash but has not been sighted since.

The crash is being treated as a major crime, with detectives reviewing CCTV, dashcam footage, and witness statements. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours, causing traffic delays, but have since reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them directly, rather than posting on social media.
