Two Canberra residents were shocked to find incorrect items in their Amazon deliveries after ordering expensive virtual reality headsets. Beth Chapman from Fadden ordered a Meta Quest 3, charging dock, and head strap worth $1,235 on September 13. When her parcel arrived on September 14, she opened it to find three boxes of Coco Pops cereal instead.
After contacting Amazon customer service, Chapman received the correct items on September 16. However, on October 30, Amazon charged her again for the VR headset and accessories, totaling $1,235, after she had already paid. She has yet to receive a refund for the duplicate charge.
Another Canberra resident, Ryan from Higgins, ordered a Meta Quest 3 on November 3 on Chapman's recommendation. Upon delivery, he found a neck pillow inside the box. He has since received a replacement headset but is still waiting for a refund for the initial order.
Amazon Australia confirmed they are reviewing both cases and will take necessary action. A spokesperson said the company has systems to detect suspicious behavior and encourages customers with issues to contact customer service directly.
Chapman is considering approaching the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for redress as her refund remains unresolved after more than two weeks.
