Belle Property has terminated its franchise agreement with Anthony Di Nardo, the owner of five Hunter region offices, following allegations of sexual harassment and indecent assault against female staff over more than a decade. The decision was announced via email by Belle Property head office director Peter Hanscomb to Hunter-based staff on Friday evening.
Hanscomb stated that the termination was prompted by information that raised serious concerns about the safety and security of former and current staff. He emphasized that the wellbeing of employees is the company's highest priority and that action was taken swiftly. The move comes after the Newcastle Herald reported that over ten past and present female employees had alleged misconduct by Di Nardo.
Di Nardo, who returned from Perth on Friday afternoon, has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as 'concerning' and 'simply untrue'. The Newcastle Herald has learned that numerous incidents have been reported to the police.
In his email, Hanscomb said Belle Property is committed to the Hunter region and is in negotiations to purchase the Hunter offices or open a new office there. He assured that positions would be available for all employees who wish to remain with the brand. A seven-day transition period has been established, during which Di Nardo has been instructed not to attend any open homes or auctions.
Hanscomb expressed devastation over the behavior that led to the termination, stating it is fundamentally at odds with the company's values and failed to provide a safe workplace. He also expressed disappointment that the situation was not disclosed earlier. The allegations include reports of grooming and harassment of a 16-year-old female staff member, who filed a workers' compensation claim in August.
