Former NRL Star Trent Merrin Charged Over Alleged $140k Crypto Theft

Former NRL player Trent Merrin has been charged with allegedly stealing $140,000 worth of cryptocurrency. Police claim Merrin accessed a 29-year-old man's online account and transferred the funds to his own digital wallet.

The investigation began in November last year after reports of a large cryptocurrency theft. Following months of inquiries, Merrin was arrested on Tuesday morning during a search warrant at a home in Barrack Point, Shellharbour, south of Wollongong. Several electronic devices were seized for forensic examination.

Merrin has been charged with dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception. He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on December 3.
