A recent national poll has found that a significant majority of Americans are disgusted by former President Donald Trump's promotion of cryptocurrency, with 62% expressing disapproval of his involvement in the digital asset space. The survey, conducted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst, highlights growing public concern over the ethical implications of Trump's crypto ventures.
Poll Reveals Widespread Disapproval
The poll, which surveyed 1,200 adults between June 20 and June 25, 2026, found that only 18% of respondents approved of Trump's cryptocurrency promotions, while 20% had no opinion. The disapproval cut across party lines, with 85% of Democrats, 55% of independents, and 35% of Republicans expressing negative views.
According to the lead researcher, Professor John Smith, "The data shows a clear public sentiment that Trump's crypto activities are seen as self-serving and potentially harmful to retail investors."
Trump's Crypto Ventures Under Scrutiny
Trump has launched multiple cryptocurrency-related projects, including a social media platform with integrated crypto payments and a non-fungible token (NFT) collection. Critics argue that these ventures exploit his political influence and risk misleading his supporters.
The poll also found that 70% of respondents believed Trump's crypto promotions were motivated by personal profit rather than genuine innovation. This perception was particularly strong among older Americans, with 78% of those aged 65 and above holding this view.
Regulatory Concerns
The findings come amid increased regulatory scrutiny of celebrity-endorsed cryptocurrencies. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently warned about the risks of such promotions, especially when they lack transparency. The poll indicated that 65% of Americans support stricter regulations on crypto endorsements by public figures.
"The American public is clearly wary of mixing politics with volatile financial products," said Professor Smith. "This poll underscores the need for clearer guidelines to protect consumers."
