Revolut has announced that all graduate and intern hires must work from the office full-time, reversing its previous remote-first policy. The change takes effect from September 2026 and applies to new joiners in its graduate and internship programs globally.
Policy Shift Details
The digital banking firm, which had allowed most employees to work remotely since the pandemic, now mandates that early-career staff be present in the office five days a week. A Revolut spokesperson said: “We believe that in-person collaboration is crucial for the development of our junior talent. Being in the office helps them learn from experienced colleagues and build the networks they need to succeed.”
The move affects hundreds of new hires each year. Revolut’s graduate program typically admits around 200 participants annually, while its internship program takes in several hundred more. The company has offices in London, New York, Singapore, and other major cities.
Industry Context
Revolut joins a growing list of companies rolling back remote work policies, especially for younger employees. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Amazon have all recently increased in-office requirements. According to a 2025 survey by McKinsey, 68% of large firms now require at least some in-office attendance for new graduates.
The policy shift has sparked debate. Some argue that in-person work accelerates career progression, while others say it reduces flexibility and work-life balance. A Revolut employee who wished to remain anonymous told the Guardian: “I understand the reasoning, but for many of us who joined during the pandemic, the remote option was a big factor in choosing Revolut. This change feels like a step backward.”
Impact on Recruitment
Revolut expects the new policy to affect its ability to attract top talent, particularly from outside major cities. The company is offering relocation assistance for those who need to move to an office location. However, some candidates may be deterred by the requirement.
Despite this, Revolut remains confident. The spokesperson added: “We are committed to providing the best possible start for our graduates and interns. We believe this policy will ultimately benefit their careers and our business.”
