A pilot is in a life-threatening condition after his light plane crashed and erupted into flames while attempting to land at a private airstrip in Central Queensland on Sunday morning.
Emergency Response to Raglan Crash
Emergency services were called to Langmorn Rd at Raglan just before 10am on Sunday following reports a light plane had gone down. The male pilot, aged in his 60s, was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
Queensland Ambulance confirmed the man sustained significant full body burns in the impact and subsequent fire. Medical crews are currently working to stabilise his critical condition at the scene.
Rescue Operation Underway
A rescue helicopter has been deployed to the crash site as part of a major emergency operation. The priority is to stabilise the seriously injured pilot before he can be airlifted to hospital for further treatment.
Police and fire crews also attended the incident, with firefighters working to extinguish the blaze that engulfed the aircraft after impact.
Investigation Launched
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the national agency responsible for investigating civilian aircraft accidents, has been notified and will likely lead the probe.
This incident follows another light aircraft emergency in Southeast Queensland just last week, where a man in his 70s was rushed to hospital after making an emergency landing on the banks of North Pine Dam in Samsonvale.
