Jetstar Launches Newcastle-Singapore Flights via Bali

Newcastle Airport has launched its second international route, with Jetstar's inaugural flight to Singapore departing on Tuesday morning. The service, which includes a stop in Bali, aims to provide travellers from the Hunter region with easier access to Asia and beyond.

Sydneysider Ivy Carruth, a travel writer, was among the first passengers, citing cheaper fares and shorter queues compared to Sydney Airport. She took the train to Newcastle and expressed excitement about a working holiday in Singapore, looking forward to relaxing by a pool and enjoying local cuisine.

Newcastle Airport chair Samantha Martin-Williams said the new route marks a significant step, connecting the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast to Singapore Changi Airport's global network of over 170 destinations. She attributed the expansion to strong demand for the existing Bali service, which has increased from three to four weekly flights.

The route is expected to boost tourism, trade and investment, with opportunities for Hunter businesses to export produce to Asia. Airport CEO Linc Horton noted that over 789,000 passengers from the region travelled to Europe, the Middle East and Asia last financial year, highlighting the potential for growth.

Port Stephens mayor and airport director Leah Anderson, who flew on the inaugural flight, said the service would deliver significant benefits for local tourism and economic development. The airport and Jetstar did not disclose passenger numbers for the connection to Singapore.
