Perth is grappling with the aftermath of a severe storm that struck on Sunday night, described as a once-in-five-years event. The storm uprooted trees, brought down power lines, and caused widespread flooding across the metropolitan area.
Damage and Power Outages
Approximately 70,000 homes lost power by Monday morning after power lines fell in multiple locations. A massive light pole collapsed on Duncraig Road in Applecross. In Peppermint Grove, a large eucalyptus tree fell onto a home, while branches and debris covered roads throughout the region.
Flooding and Road Closures
Several major roads were closed due to flooding, including Stirling Highway in North Fremantle and Riverside Drive in the city center, after the Swan River broke its banks. High tide warnings remain in effect for coastal areas including Perth and Mandurah, with swells expected to reach up to eight meters.
Flight Disruptions
Damaging winds affected aircraft operations overnight, forcing some flights bound for Perth to divert to Kalgoorlie. Take-offs and landings for several other flights were also impacted.

Although the severe weather warning has been canceled, authorities have issued alerts across the city. Residents are advised to stay informed and avoid affected areas as cleanup efforts continue.
