A tragic incident unfolded in Sydney's south-west on Wednesday afternoon when two children under the age of five were killed after a car struck the pram they were seated in.

Details of the Incident

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Joseph and Gilbert Streets in Cabramatta at approximately 3:15 pm following reports of a crash, according to New South Wales Police. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two children, both under five, had been hit by a car while sitting in a pram.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting the children to hospital in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed that the children had died. Formal identification is yet to take place.

Injuries and Arrest

A 33-year-old woman, who police believe was known to the children, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The alleged driver of the car, a 56-year-old man, was uninjured. He was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
