Manchester United Teen James Overy Earns First Socceroos Call-Up

Seventeen-year-old Manchester United defender James Overy has been named in the Socceroos squad for the first time, headlining 11 inclusions for upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia. The Perth-born right-back, who turns 18 this weekend, impressed at the U20 World Cup with the Young Socceroos and recently signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils.

Veterans Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree return from foot injuries, while Adelaide United captain Craig Goodwin is the only A-League Men player in the squad. Uncapped defender Jack Iredale (Hibernian) and one-cap defender Callum Elder (Derby County) are also included, alongside Wisła Płock striker Deni Jurić, brother of former Socceroo Tomi Jurić, earning his first call-up at 28.

Al Hassan Toure joins his brother Mohamed Toure in the squad for the first time after scoring his first senior hat-trick, while Melbourne City goalkeeper Patrick Beach replaces Joe Gauci. Defensive midfielder Kai Trewin is rewarded for his fine form, and Paul Okon-Engstler chases a first cap.
