Two Arrested After Reckless Police Chase Ends in Crash at North Rocks

A man and a woman have been arrested following a dramatic police chase through Sydney's west, which ended when their car crashed into a traffic light pole at North Rocks. Police described the driving as 'appalling' and 'reckless'.

The pursuit began around 9:30am on Thursday when officers investigating robberies in Liverpool and Fairfield detected a white sedan believed to be stolen. The driver refused to stop, prompting a chase onto the M5 Motorway at Casula, where the car collided with the back of a truck.

Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons, but PolAir continued to monitor the vehicle as it drove into the city's north west. Helicopter vision showed the car weaving through traffic, running intersections, and driving on the wrong side of the road at high speeds.

The car, with a badly-damaged bonnet, eventually crashed into a traffic light pole at North Rocks just before 11am. Police arrested a 39-year-old man from Glenfield, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, and a 37-year-old woman from Ingleburn, a suspect in several alleged robberies.

Officers found two unregistered firearms in the car, along with items allegedly stolen from properties. Superintendent Adam Whyte from Liverpool City Police Command said it was a testament to other drivers that no one was injured, adding, 'It was clear the driver and his passenger had no concern whatsoever for other motorists and road users.'

The pair is assisting police with inquiries at Ryde Police Station.
