Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man who disarmed a terrorist during the Bondi attack, has been granted Australian residency while he recovers from multiple gunshot wounds in a Sydney hospital. The 43-year-old underwent surgery for injuries sustained during the incident.
Al Ahmed, originally from the Syrian town of Al Nayrab, moved to Australia in the mid-2000s seeking work. His family in Syria expressed pride in his actions, with his uncle Wahid Al Ahmed describing him as a brave and honourable man who cannot tolerate injustice.
Residents of Al Nayrab, a village of about 6,500 people near Idlib, recalled Al Ahmed as sharp-witted and chivalrous. The town, which suffered bombardment during Syria's civil war, now celebrates his heroism.
Al Ahmed's uncle Mohammad Al Ahmed highlighted the humanitarian nature of his act, stating it was a source of pride for Arabs and Muslims regardless of the victims' faith. The story has resonated across the Arab world, offering a rare moment of unity.
