A five-hour police siege in Warrawong has concluded without injuries, with a 45-year-old man taken into custody. The incident began on Thursday morning when emergency services responded to concerns for the man's welfare at a private property on the Bruxner Highway.
Police negotiators and tactical units were deployed to the scene, establishing roadblocks and a local lockdown. The man was safely taken into custody around 2pm and transferred to Lismore Base Hospital for examination. No charges have been laid yet.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna commended the operation, stating that specialists in negotiation resolved the situation safely. He also thanked the public for their cooperation during the lockdown and evacuation of nearby areas.
The Bruxner Highway was closed during the standoff, and an exclusion zone was enforced. McKenna emphasized that precautions, including evacuations, were taken to ensure safety.
