Adelaide Teacher Removed Over Charlie Kirk Halloween Costume

An Adelaide high school teacher has been removed from campus after allegedly dressing as assassinated conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at a staff Halloween party. Guy Harrison, a Design and Technology coordinator at Urrbrae Agricultural High School, reportedly wore a bloodied shirt and a fake bullet wound for the October 31 event.

Principal Todd George confirmed Harrison had been “removed from campus” pending an investigation, calling the costume “completely unacceptable” in a letter to parents. Harrison responded via email, stating he remains “on leave”.

Not all parents are outraged. One parent, who asked not to be named, told 7NEWS.com.au: “There’s far worse out there. If no one’s allowed to wear an offensive costume, Halloween would be cancelled. Something is always offensive to someone.” She said the incident had not impacted Harrison’s teaching and believed he should not be suspended or fired.

Another parent, whose child is finishing Year 8, said the controversy reflected broader issues around how teachers are treated. “When someone dresses as a witch, you don’t think of the Salem witch trials. Kirk made a career debating teens and showed no empathy for gun violence victims. The costume was ironic — maybe just not for a staff party.”

Students also weighed in, with one saying they “didn’t know who Charlie Kirk was until he died”. Another student said: “Harrison is a good teacher. They’re rare these days.” Charlie Kirk, 31, was a Christian nationalist podcaster and head of US conservative movement Turning Point. He was shot and killed during a live debate at Utah Valley University in September.

Urrbrae said counselling was available for any affected students.
