Police have confirmed that no charges will be laid against an 11-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed an 8-year-old student at Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick, Melbourne's outer south-east. The incident occurred on the school grounds at about 9am on Thursday.

The 8-year-old victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The school on Bemersyde Drive and a neighbouring high school were briefly placed into lockdown following the stabbing.

Police spoke to the 11-year-old boy after the incident, and he was taken to hospital for assessment. On Friday evening, Victoria Police issued a statement explaining that the boy would not be charged due to the minimum age of criminal responsibility being 12.
