An Irish family has been left heartbroken after a young teacher unexpectedly died in Melbourne. Sarah Halpenny, 29, passed away on December 14, prompting an outpouring of tributes from loved ones and the community.

Ms Halpenny had been working at Sacred Heart Primary School in northwest Melbourne. Her previous school in Ireland, St Joseph’s National School Kingscourt, described her as an “amazing teacher” who was “equally loved and adored by her pupils”. She leaves behind her partner Ciaran, parents Yvonne and David, and sister Grace.

St Kevin’s GAA, her football team in Melbourne, shared a heartfelt tribute, calling her “beautiful inside and out” and noting her “witty sense of humour and a great heart”. The post highlighted her calm presence and ability to make the most of every moment.
