A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder after remains believed to be those of missing Toowoomba woman Jana Armstrong were discovered in bushland in Queensland.
Remains found in bushland
Queensland police located the remains on Saturday night at 11:20pm in bushland off Esk Hampton Road. As of Sunday morning, formal identification had not been completed, but investigators are confident the remains belong to Armstrong, who was last seen on Tuesday 7 July.
Armstrong was reported missing from a suburb in Toowoomba, south of Brisbane. Officers released footage showing her wearing a green-and-white striped Country Road shirt, jeans, and thongs. Her white Hyundai car was found about 500 metres from her home.
Arrest and charge
Detectives arrested the 48-year-old man at his Toowoomba residence and charged him with one count of murder, classified as a domestic violence offence. He is due to appear in court on Monday.
Police have been in contact with Armstrong’s family as forensic examinations continue.
Police appeal for information
Authorities are appealing to the public for any relevant information, CCTV, or dashcam footage. They are particularly interested in the area between Toowoomba and Esk from 10:30pm on 7 July to 1:30am on 8 July. Police are scheduled to address the media later on Sunday.
