Queensland police have charged a 48-year-old man with domestic violence murder after human remains believed to be those of missing mother Jana Armstrong were discovered in bushland overnight.
Discovery of remains
Police located the remains in bushland off Esk Hampton Road in Redbank Creek, northeast of Toowoomba. The area has been declared a crime scene. While formal identification is pending as of 7:30am today, police believe the remains are Armstrong's and have informed her family.
Armstrong, a mother, was reported missing from Newtown after she was last seen on 7 July.
Arrest and charges
Darling Downs district detectives executed a search warrant at a property on West Street in Harristown, where they arrested the 48-year-old man. He has been charged with one count of murder, classified as a domestic violence offence. The man is scheduled to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information, particularly dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward. They are specifically seeking footage captured between 10:30pm on 7 July and 1:30am on 8 July along the route from Toowoomba to Esk, including Esk Hampton Road and the New England Highway.
Anyone with relevant information or vision is asked to contact police.
