A homeless man has been charged and refused bail after he was allegedly caught with knives and explosives outside the Sydney home of former nightclub owner John Ibrahim.

Incident details

About 2.40pm on May 24, police were called to Bulga Road in Dover Heights over concerns about the behaviour of a man seen near the cliff edge. Officers arrived and spoke with a 43-year-old man before he was taken into custody.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Troy William Buck, also known as Troy Adam, had recently searched online for "Where does John Ibrahim live?"

Legal proceedings

The man was initially taken to hospital for assessment before being returned to custody and held at Surry Hills Police Station. He was charged with custody of a knife in a public place, possess explosives in a public place, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possess housebreaking implements.

According to the masthead, the explosive in question was a Molotov cocktail. Buck was also served with an apprehended violence order (AVO) application by officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command for Ibrahim's protection.

Ibrahim's response

It is understood the former nightclub owner was not aware of the incident until the AVO was sought and was informed by police. "That's all I need now, the homeless after me," Ibrahim told The Daily Telegraph. "He's definitely totally unknown to me."

The man was refused bail twice and is set to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
