Gym-Goer Baffled After Woman Claims Treadmill as Hers

A man has shared a perplexing encounter at his local gym, where a woman insisted that he vacate the treadmill he had been using because it supposedly belonged to her. The incident, which unfolded at a 24-hour fitness center, has since sparked widespread discussion on social media.

The Confrontation

According to the Reddit user, who posted anonymously on Friday, he typically visits the gym around 6:15 a.m., when it is relatively quiet with only about eight to ten people present. On this particular morning, he selected a treadmill near the window—the second one from the left—and began his routine. After approximately 25 minutes of running, a woman approached him directly and stated, 'That's my treadmill.'

Initially, the man thought he had misheard her, so he removed one earbud and asked her to repeat the statement. She reiterated that the treadmill was hers, explaining that she always uses that specific machine every morning at 6:40 a.m. and has a routine built around its location between the TV screens and the window. She requested that he move to a different treadmill.

Looking down the row, the man noticed six other treadmills were vacant. He politely declined, noting that he had been running for 25 minutes and there were plenty of alternatives. The woman acknowledged the availability of other machines but insisted she preferred that particular one due to her established routine.

The Standoff

When the man refused to switch mid-run, the woman made a facial expression that he described as 'a very specific face'—one that silently communicated her disapproval without words. She then chose the treadmill immediately next to his, which also offered a view of the window and TV screens, and ran in silence beside him for the remaining 15 minutes of his workout.

Upon finishing, the man wiped down his machine and stepped away. He observed from a water station as the woman immediately relocated to 'her' treadmill, adjusted the settings, nodded to herself, and began her run. 'The vindication on her face was something I will carry with me for a while,' he remarked.

He concluded, 'I don't go to the gym to have opinions about treadmills. I'm just trying to run for thirty minutes and leave. But because of this woman, I now have a treadmill preference, and it is specifically not the second one from the left.'

Online Reactions

The story quickly garnered attention on Reddit, with many users expressing disbelief at the woman's sense of entitlement. One commenter noted, 'Having a preference is fine. Expecting someone else to move for your preference is insane.' Another joked, 'I'm the sort of person who would be there every morning to use that treadmill before she got there.' A third quipped, 'That day would be the day I went for the longest run of my life. I would lose my job missing work to not get off that treadmill. My family would ask where I was for the birth of my child, and I'd inform them I was engaging in stubborn justice.'

The incident serves as a reminder of gym etiquette, where shared equipment is typically available on a first-come, first-served basis, and personal preferences do not justify demanding others to move.
