A teacher at a school in Adelaide's eastern suburbs has been charged with historical child sex offences. Detectives arrested a man in his 60s on Friday and charged him with one count of sexual abuse of a child. Police allege the offending is historical.
In a message to parents on Wednesday, the school's principal said: "I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by police and charged with an historical child sexual offence. There is no evidence at this stage that any student at our school is, or has been involved. Police are investigating the matter."
Teacher Barred from Child-Related Work
The principal confirmed the teacher has been barred from all child-related work and instructed not to attend any Department for Education site. "I am always concerned with and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all our students at our school," the principal said.
Ongoing Investigation
Police say their investigation remains ongoing. The man has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 16.
