Carrie Bickmore Hospitalised as Vocal Cord Issues Persist
Carrie Bickmore Hospitalised Amid Vocal Cord Issues

Popular radio personality Carrie Bickmore has provided an update on recurring vocal cord issues that have kept her off-air for two weeks.

On May 18, The Carrie and Tommy Show co-host told listeners she would be forced to sit out indefinitely as her “voice hasn’t been right for some time” and she required an extended period of rest.

In a sign the sensitive vocal folds remain strained, Bickmore, 45, posted a photo from hospital on Tuesday willing her voice to return.

“OK voice . . . time to come back . . . ,” she captioned the image, shared on Instagram stories.

The post depicted the mother of three lying in a hospital bed with a blanket draped over her body.

She did not reveal whether she was awaiting surgery or receiving other treatment.

In Bickmore’s announcement a fortnight prior, she said she had been visiting an ENT doctor who advised her she would risk serious damage by refusing to step away.

“Things are not good, so I’m going to have to take some time off work to get it fixed. If I don’t get it fixed now, they (vocal cords) will be permanently damaged, which will be very unfortunate for my job . . . ,” she said.

The Gold Logie winner — who co-hosted The Project from 2009-22 — admitted she felt a sense of responsibility to her fans and feared letting them down.

“It’s making me upset. I’ll be fine, sorry . . . I don’t know why it’s making me so upset. I just don’t like letting people down and I don’t like letting myself down,” Bickmore said.

At the time, Bickmore advised she would be “off-air for a few weeks while I get my damn voice sorted”.

To make matters worse, the presenter’s persistent vocal issues have surfaced amid a particularly challenging health period in which she has also been recovering from a nasty facial injury.

The mother “walked into the corner of the wall” in April prior to going on holiday in Sri Lanka, leaving her with a sizeable gash on her forehead that drew comparisons to Harry Potter.

In a recent update, she revealed the cut had been “healing nicely” and that she felt less socially inhibited by it.

Bickmore has co-hosted her Hit Network radio show with long-time pal and colleague Little since 2017.
