Uber has launched a new drift car experience for tourists in Japan, tapping into the country's iconic underground car culture. The Uber Drift experience, part of the platform's "Go Anywhere" series, offers a rare opportunity for visitors to ride in legendary drift cars on a professional track.
Japan Tourism Boom
More than a million Australians visited Japan in 2025, a 15% increase from the previous year, as the traditional Bali winter getaway loses steam. Tokyo, often compared to a cleaner and more efficient New York City, remains the top destination. However, for all its curated attractions, Tokyo's more authentic corners—like its car culture—have been off-limits to tourists until now.
The Uber Drift Experience
Uber Drift is the latest entry in Uber's "Go Anywhere" series, following Uber Safari in South Africa, Uber Copter in Italy, and Uber Balloon in Turkey. It is the first to launch in the Asia-Pacific region. The experience begins with an Uber Black pickup from anywhere in Tokyo, taking guests to Mobara Twin Circuit in Chiba, about 90 minutes away.
Upon arrival, participants are greeted by two iconic drift cars: a Nissan Silvia S15 and a Nissan 180SX. After suiting up, guests are strapped into the passenger seat for a 90-minute session with professional drivers. Despite sharp turns and high speeds, the drivers maintain full control, ensuring a thrilling yet safe ride.
Affordable and Private
Bookings are ¥30,000 ($265) flat for up to four people, with capacity capped at four groups per day. Each reservation is entirely private, allowing friends to enjoy the track together. After the session, guests receive snacks for the road and an Uber Black ride back through the serene rice fields of outer Tokyo.
Availability
Uber Drift experiences run from June 3 to July 1. While tickets are currently sold out, Uber says cancellations are likely, so interested parties should keep an eye out for last-minute spots.
