Kmart Launches 'K Home' Store, Rivaling Ikea

Kmart has unveiled a new 'curated' home furniture store in Box Hill, Victoria, leaving Australians stunned. The budget retailer has expanded its product offering amid huge customer demand, and people are beyond excited.

New 'K Home' Format

This week, Victorians noticed that Kmart has launched a 'K home' facility in Box Hill. The store, which includes 3,100 square meters of customer shopping space, is a dedicated home living space. It allows customers to discover new items that were previously only available online.

A Kmart spokeswoman said the store builds on 'years of growth in Kmart's home offer' and helps the retailer test and understand what shoppers want from the home and lifestyle category. 'The trial aims to make it easier for customers to access Kmart's home range while continuing to deliver the quality, style, and low prices Australians know and love,' she said.

What to Expect

Kmart released new renders of what customers can expect from the new K home stores. The store brings together a curated home and living range in one dedicated space, making it easier for customers to browse, discover ideas, and shop for their homes.

Photos of the new store quickly circulated on social media. 'I spotted today that a Kmart home store is set to open soon,' one user said. 'The site is a former Decathlon store, so probably half the size of a full-size Kmart. Will be interesting to see what they range and how it goes!'

Another user compared the format to Ikea, saying, 'K home will never match Ikea!' The trial aims to help the Kmart team understand how a dedicated home format inspires customer purchase choices and how shoppers interact with the new setting.

Store Features

The store will offer items that were previously only available online. It will have 'room-set inspiration' to give customers a clearer presentation of furniture, storage, and home styling. The new home store is very different from a regular Kmart.

Chief Commercial Officer Callum Smith said the new format is 'more immersive' than a traditional Kmart store and will help customers furnish their space and create a comfortable home environment. 'Customers have embraced Kmart's home range for many years, and we've continued to grow our furniture offer as customer demand has grown,' he said. 'At a time when value matters more than ever, this trial is about helping Australian families create a home they love at a price they can afford.'

The new K home store in Box Hill will open to the public on June 18.
