Few footwear brands have achieved the cultural staying power of Dr. Martens. What began as a practical work boot has evolved into a global symbol of individuality, worn by everyone from musicians and artists to fashion lovers and everyday commuters. For more than 60 years, the brand has built a reputation for creating shoes that blend durability and unmistakable style.
Part of Dr. Martens' enduring appeal is its ability to mean different things to different people. For some, it's a nostalgic wardrobe staple they've worn for years. For others, it's a fashion statement. And for those yet to experience their first pair, it's a chance to discover what generations of loyal fans have been talking about.
With Dr. Martens currently offering discounts across a selection of its most-loved styles, the 7You team decided to put several pairs to the test. Two of us were complete newcomers to the brand, while one of us has spent years living in her favourite pair. From metallic loafers and classic styles to sandals that have stood the test of time, here's what we thought after wearing some of Dr. Martens' most iconic designs.
Ariana's Review: Adrian Patent Loafer in Silver
Was $339.99, now $229.99
I'll admit it: I had somehow made it through life without ever owning a pair of Dr. Martens. Whenever I tell people that, the reaction is usually one of shock. After all, Docs are practically a rite of passage for many. For my first pair, I wanted something that felt a little unexpected, like the Adrian Patent Loafer in silver. Metallic footwear is having a major fashion moment, and these instantly felt like the perfect way to dip my toe into the trend while still investing in a classic silhouette.
My first impression was that they looked incredibly cool, and breaking them in was definitely a commitment. Like many Dr. Martens devotees will tell you, patience is part of the process. The structured leather felt firm at first, but after several wears with thick socks, they gradually moulded to my feet. Now that they're fully broken in, I understand why people stay loyal to the brand for decades.
The silver patent finish is what truly sets these loafers apart. They're bold without feeling over-the-top and instantly elevate even the simplest outfit. One colleague affectionately nicknamed me the 'Tin Man' after spotting them around the office, which felt like proof that these shoes attract attention in the best possible way.
What I love most is that despite their statement-making appearance, they're surprisingly versatile. I've worn them with denim, tailored trousers, and simple dresses, and they always become the focal point of the outfit. The high-shine patent leather gives the classic Adrian Loafer a fresh, contemporary edge, while signature details like the double tassel, kiltie fringe, and iconic yellow welt stitching remain intact. For a first pair of Docs, I may have gone straight for one of the boldest options available, but I have absolutely no regrets. They're now the statement shoe I reach for whenever I want an outfit to feel a little more fun.
Sophie's Review: Adrian Smooth Loafer
Was $339.99, now $229.99
Having never owned Dr. Martens, I was curious as to what all the fuss was about. I've regularly had team members wax lyrical about the iconic British brand and how their shoes have lasted forever. Opting for the Adrian Smooth Loafers, I first put them on with jeans on an in-office day, upon which point I was struck by just how structured these shoes really are. They take the nature of breaking something in to the next level.
Since then, I've been wearing the loafers in short intervals, and I can confirm that after several hour-long wears at a time, the loafers have now well and truly moulded to my feet. Not only this, but I am finding them one of the most versatile shoes in my wardrobe — perfect for everything from cafe runs at the weekend with my kids, to errands and office outfits. My favourite features of these loafers include the cute little tasselled front, as well as the vertical boost they give by way of their slightly platformed heel. Now I've broken them in, I also love the feel of that classic Dr. Martens' tough, smooth leather. I think I could be wearing these loafers for a very long time.
Eleanor's Review: Voss II Athena Sandals
Was $269.99, now $219.99
I mean it when I say I have worn these shoes to death for the past five years. A staple in my wardrobe, the Voss II Athena Dr. Martens have been my go-to shoe no matter the occasion — so much so, they've almost become a necessary part of my personality. Whether it was university, work, the club, or even the beach, there was no more versatile shoe in my wardrobe, and anyone who knows me knows that wherever I was, my 'Jesus sandals' wouldn't be far behind.
When my trusty Voss II Athenas were on their last legs, I wasn't sure what I would replace them with, but I knew I needed to instantly repurchase. These sandals are the kind of shoe that you initially invest in, but made with their quality leather and signature SoftWair memory foam footbed, these will practically become one with your foot. If I could take one thing with me to a deserted island, the Voss II Athenas would be it; the design and construction beat any other shoe on the market.
