Greater Manchester police have arrested a schoolgirl following a stabbing incident at a school in Blackley, where three people sustained injuries described as 'non-serious'. The incident prompted a lockdown of students in their classrooms as emergency services rushed to the Co-op Academy on Tuesday morning.
Incident Details
According to a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP), officers responded to the school after reports of a stabbing. A girl was taken into custody at the scene. The injuries, while consistent with stab wounds, are not believed to be life-threatening.
"Officers are currently responding to an incident at a school in Blackley where a schoolgirl has been arrested. Three people have been injured; however, injuries aren't believed to be serious at this time," the GMP spokesperson stated.
School Lockdown
Students were instructed to remain in their classrooms as a precautionary measure while police and medical teams attended the scene. Authorities have assured parents and the public that there is no ongoing threat to pupils or staff.
"Emergency services remain on scene, and we are supporting the school. There is not believed to be any wider threat to the pupils and staff in the school," the spokesperson added.
