Home Invasion Victim, 72, Breaks Silence, Calls Husband Hero

Di Blessing, 72, has spoken out after surviving a horrific home invasion at her rural property in Torrington, New South Wales. She was discharged from hospital, while her husband Keith, 75, remains in stable condition after being stabbed multiple times.

Heroic Act

On Thursday, Joshua Trethewey allegedly broke into the couple's home and attacked them with a knife. Keith fought him off, grabbed his rifle, and shot the 34-year-old in the stomach. Di called her husband her hero, saying, 'Without him I believe I would not be alive today.'

Family and Community Support

Di praised her daughters and extended family for their support. 'This nightmare has taken its toll on them, too,' she said. The local Torrington community set up a GoFundMe page, but the couple declined, asking donations go to the Westpac Rescue Service.

First responders, including police, paramedics, and the Westpac chopper crew, were thanked by Di: 'We owe them our lives.' Tenterfield Mayor Bronwyn Petrie expressed relief at their recovery, calling it a 'terrible random thing.'

NSW Premier Chris Minns commended Keith's bravery. Police detectives plan to interview the couple soon. Trethewey, charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, is out of a coma and will be interviewed by police.
