Gym Owner Suspended Over Neo-Nazi Member

A boxing gym in Melbourne's north has hit back after its owner was temporarily suspended following the discovery that a prominent neo-Nazi had been attending classes for months.

Neo-Nazi's Presence at Club Titans

Thomas Sewell, the leader of the National Socialist Network recently declared a hate group by the federal government, had been a casual member at Club Titans in Diamond Creek for several months. Owner Nic Tsioulos said Sewell attended adult evening classes and kept to himself, leaving immediately after sessions. Tsioulos admitted he did not conduct a police check before allowing Sewell to join, noting that most community gyms do not perform such checks.

Owner's Suspension and Response

After news of Sewell's attendance emerged via a tip-off, Boxing Victoria suspended Tsioulos pending an investigation. In a social media post, Tsioulos expressed shock and stated that Sewell's conduct at the gym had not raised any concerns. He emphasized that the gym has zero tolerance for hate, racism, or extremism and has since banned Sewell. Tsioulos also introduced new membership policies and screening procedures to prevent similar incidents.

Boxing Victoria released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the matter and affirming its commitment to a safe and inclusive sport. Tsioulos defended his gym's reputation, highlighting its 17 years of community service and support for local clubs, schools, and disadvantaged groups.

Community Support and Broader Context

Dozens of loyal club members have publicly supported Tsioulos. Meanwhile, it was revealed that Sewell has been living in a $2.5 million mansion in Hurstbridge, provided by a wealthy sympathizer, which serves as a hub for his neo-Nazi group. Sewell is currently challenging the government's ban on his organization and fundraising for a High Court challenge to anti-free speech laws.
